Festivals around the world serve as windows into the heart of cultures, each one a unique blend of history, tradition, and celebration. From deeply rooted traditions to modern-day extravaganzas, festivals bring people together, fostering a sense of community and cultural pride.
An important Hindu festival known as the Jagannath Rath Yatra is held in the city of Odisha once a year. It takes place on Dwitiya Tithi, the second day of the radiant Sharad Paksha fortnight, when there is an increase in moonlight and is considered a good time for spiritual pursuits. The Hindu lunar calendar places this event in the month of Asadh, which roughly corresponds to June or July in the Gregorian calendar.
The Deva Snana Purnima also spelt Snana Jatra, is a bathing festival of deities celebrated on the purnima (full moon day) of the Hindu month of Jyeshtha. It is the auspicious birthday of Jagannath.
Elephant attire is put on the bodies of deities on the occasion of Jagannath Snana Jatra. It is an important festival for Hindus. This is the first occasion in the year as per the Hindu calendar.
